X Factor auditions are back in full swing ready for Series Six, which will be coming out later this year. The event pulled immense numbers of people to venues in Birmingham and Manchester, where a crowd of thousands turned up as early as 4am at Old Trafford football ground for a stab at fame. Epigram spoke to the student amateur singer and X Factor hopeful Chris Burton before he headed up to Manchester two weekends ago to sing in an audition.
"I’m nervous, but at the end of the day it has always been my dream. When I was about 6, I became hooked on Diana Ross, and ever since I haven’t stopped singing her songs, even when I go up to audition I will be singing a Diana Ross song, I just find her so inspirational".
This kind of sentiment is both endearing and deadly – as so many leave disappointed. Its difficult to imagine how many get through the initial rounds out of the thousands upon thousands you see in the opening shots of the programmes, but it is possible to deduce that many hearts are surely broken.
